The national health office in Surat Thani agreed on Saturday to pay 400,000 baht to a 20-year-old student whose left leg had to be amputated after receiving her second AstraZeneca shot. The vaccine had reportedly caused a blood clot below the knee.

Panida Chantharangsikul, deputy director of the office, said the student, who is from Phang Nga Province, is being treated at Songklanagarind Hospital in Songkhla’s Hat Yai District.

“The office has decided to give the student 400,000 baht – the maximum compensation for death or permanent disability – in an effort to alleviate her suffering as quickly as possible,” she said.
