The day before yesterday, at a New Year’s Eve party at a restaurant in Bangkok, 40 people were arrested for allegedly having illegal drugs.
A team of Huai Khwang police raided a “restaurant” in Soi Ratchadanivet in Huai Khwang yesterday morning (Jan. 1). Police have officially kept the restaurant’s name a secret pending further investigation and legal action.
Forty people were found at the party, who are described by the Huai Khwang police as 23 men and 17 women. Twenty-seven of them are said to have recently taken illegal drugs after a urine-based drug test, police told the Thai press.
Eight ecstasy pills and five grams of ketamine were found on the floor of the hall with no one, customers or staff alike, having any idea where the drugs suddenly came from.
A man identified as the restaurant’s manager, Sarawut, (surname not released to the press) faces multiple charges in connection with the arrest, including illegal drugs and violating current Covid-19-related rules referring to social distancing and entertainment venues.
All suspects were taken to Huai Khwang Police Station for further legal action.
