A 6-year-old boy was stabbed to death in Chicago because of his Palestinian heritage. His mother was also injured and stabbed ten times during the incident. The perpetrator is their 71-year-old landlord, whose motive is said to be Hamas’s attack on Israel.
The perpetrator admitted to police that he attacked the mother and son because of their Palestinian origins and religion. “We have determined that both victims of this brutal attack were targeted by the suspect because they are Muslim and because of the conflict in the Middle East between Hamas and Israel,” police said. The boy died in hospital after being stabbed 26 times with a knife. His mother was stabbed ten times with the same knife but survived the attack.
The 71-year-old perpetrator is said to have initially shouted at the mother, “you Muslims must die” . He allegedly knocked on her door first, after which he tried to strangle her. He eventually attacked her with a knife, and she locked herself in the bathroom to call the emergency services. When she walked outside, she found out her son had been stabbed.
After the incident, the perpetrator was found sitting on the floor in the house and is suspected of premeditated murder. The attack attracted a lot of attention, and President Joe Biden has also responded to the horrific act. “This heinous act of hatred has no place in America and is contrary to our founding values: freedom from fear for how we pray, what we believe, and who we are,” Biden said in an official statement.
