Balenciaga’s new campaign was astonished all over the world. There has also been a lot of confusion and misunderstanding about the photos in the Netherlands in recent days. The Free A Girl foundation, among others, made itself heard. “Fashion brand Balenciaga has launched a new campaign depicting underage girls playing with teddy bears, dressed in SM/bondage clothing. What the… fashion?”

In addition to the bizarre photos of young girls with inappropriately dressed stuffed animals, the campaign also featured other gruesome details. For example, on one of the photos on the website you saw a pile of papers. One of those articles was a court document “referencing the Ashcroft vs Free Speech Coalition lawsuit, the lawsuit that made virtual/fake child sexual abuse images and videos legal in the United States ,” according to Free A Girl.

According to the foundation, Balenciaga contributes to the sexual glorification of young children with the campaign. “This is not ‘edgy’ PR. This is appalling and worrying. This is criminal.”

After the storm of criticism, Balenciaga has today decided to put his hand in his own bosom and say openly sorry. “We sincerely apologize to everyone we’ve hurt with our campaign,” it reads, a week after the campaign’s official release, in a statement on Instagram. “Our plush bear bags should not have been placed with children in this campaign. We have immediately removed the campaign from all platforms.”

Balenciaga also speaks out about the controversial documents in one of the photos. “We apologize for displaying disturbing documents in our campaign.” The fashion house says it was not aware of the design. “We take the matter very seriously and will take legal action against individuals responsible for making the set. We condemn abuse of children in any form. We stand for the safety and well-being of children.”
