Beggers storm temple as lottery winning monk flees

Montri Samujjo, is a 67-year-old monk from Wat Thinnakorn Nimit in Nonthaburi Province, Thailand.

Last Sunday he won 6 million Thai Baht from 3 tickets

Montri, also known as Monk Piak, lucky day came when a ticket seller who couldn’t sell anymore had asked the monk if he could by some lottery tickets from him.

As the monk felt bad for the ticket seller, he decided to loan 2,000 Thai from a fellow monk and buy some tickets to help the seller.

On the day of the draw Monk Piak was surprised when three of his tickets that he had bought come out as winners.

As Monk Piak is a good man, he gave 1 million Baht to each of his 3 children and also donated some of the money to the temple and those people in need.

The rest of the winnings will reportedly be reserved for more people in need in the future.

After news of the big win went out online, this had then gained a lot of unwanted attention which resulted in many people storming the temple asking for donations.

It became difficult for the monks to sleep at night, according to Coconuts Bangkok.

Assistant abbot Sitthi Woradit confirmed that Monk Piak no longer resided in their temple after he asked to be relocated to an undisclosed temple in another province.

“He went somewhere else. Please don’t come here again,” the assistant abbot said to local reporters. “It’s disturbing the monks and causing chaos.
