BANGKOK, 24 July 2018 (NNT) – Buddhism Week for Asalha Bucha and Buddhist Lent this year will take place at Sanam Luang for the first time where the Ministry of Culture has already crafted 10 Buddhist Lent candles to be offered to the nation’s 10 Royal Temples.

A large number of citizens took part in the candle forming ceremony, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, at Sanam Luang to promote Buddhism Week for Asalha Bucha and Buddhist Lent 2018. Merit from the candles has been devoted to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of the Ninth Reign and His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn on the occasion on his birthday.

The Buddhism Week is to continue until July 28 with Sanam Luang to feature a Buddha relic that can be worshipped by Buddhist faithful. The field will also feature an exhibition on Buddha relics through history, activities to foster morality, performances on dhamma, competitions and mass prayers.

The Department of Religion is holding similar events throughout the nation including Buddhist Lent candle forming ceremonies, candle processions, alms giving and sermons. Activities are to also be held in 16 provinces along the nation’s borders to promote relations through Buddhism and Thai culture to the country’s ASEAN neighbors.
