In the French town of Saint-Herbot, a 71-year-old Dutchman shot and killed his 11-year-old neighbour in her garden yesterday after a neighbourly quarrel. The man also injured her parents during the shooting incident.
FIRE OPENED BY HEDGE
The girl is said to have been swinging with her 8-year-old sister in the garden around 10 p.m. last night when their neighbour opened fire through a hedge. The 11-year-old died at the scene, while her sister was unharmed. The mother suffered minor injuries in the shooting. The father suffered serious injuries and is currently in a life-threatening condition.
It is not known what the exact cause of the tragic event was. According to the French Public Prosecution Service, the neighbour dispute has been ongoing for some time, and the conflict would have revolved around a piece of land.
LOCKED IN THE HOUSE
The Dutchman and his wife had locked themselves in their home after the incident, where they were arrested by the police an hour later. The 71-year-old man and his wife have been living in Saint-Herbot since 2020. His neighbours have lived there for five years.
