Elon Musk plans to launch a social media app but people want him to buy Twitter instead

Must read

Elon Musk is ‘seriously’ thinking about setting up his own social media platform. The Tesla CEO writes online that there is little room on Twitter to express your opinion.

Elon compares Twitter to a town square. Because the platform does not adhere to the principles of freedom of expression, Twitter undermines democracy, he says. “Freedom of speech is essential for a well-functioning democracy,” said the Tesla CEO.

On Twitter, Elon posted a poll in which he asked his followers whether they think Twitter adheres to the principles of freedom of expression. Two million people cast their votes and no less than 70 per cent answered ‘no’.

Elon has had several discussions with the US stock market regulator Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). SEC wants all tweets sent by the CEO about Tesla to be checked in advance by lawyers.

In the past, Elon’s tweets about Tesla have caused major swings in the company’s stock price. However, the CEO believes that the SEC is limiting his freedom of expression in this way.
