Estonian drug dealer listed on Interpol’s red list after four years in hiding in Pattaya, eventually arrested

According to the Chonburi immigration service, an alleged Estonian drug dealer who was listed on the Interpol red list has been arrested in Pattaya, the man is said to have been in hiding in this coastal town for four years.

Colonel Thanawat Poonsawat, Chief Immigration Commissioner Chonburi, and other relevant agents arrested Mr. Janno Ojaste, a 39-year-old Estonian alleged drug dealer who is on the Interpol red list issued on February 1. The suspect was wanted by the Estonian police for allegedly large drug possession and distribution.

The Chonburi Police Department, in conjunction with the Investigation Immigration Division, conducted an investigation and found that Mt. Janno was ‘hiding’ in Soi 5 near Pratumnak road in Pattaya.

On May 17, he was arrested by the police because he had an expired visa that was no longer valid since December 8, 2018.

The accused was sentenced by the Pattaya Provincial Court to three years in prison and a fine of 4,000 baht for exceeding the length of stay, but his prison sentence was commuted to two years’ parole.

Under the 1979 Immigration Act, the accused would be deported from the kingdom after serving his sentence. Thai officials reportedly collaborated with Estonian officials for the deportation of the suspect.
