Former Indian politician Atiq Ahmed was shot dead on Saturday evening during a live broadcast on television in the Indian city of Prayagraj. Ahmed himself was a suspect in a murder case.

MEDICAL CHECKUP

Images show how 60-year-old Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed are handcuffed to the hospital for a medical checkup, surrounded by police officers. They are busy talking to journalists, who are filming the interview. Then someone can be seen pulling a gun and shooting Atiq Ahmed in the head at close range. His brother is also fatal. Three men have been arrested in connection with the murder. They posed as journalists to get close to the brothers. The killers’ motive is under investigation.

CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES

Atiq Ahmed was known in the criminal world. In 2019, he was convicted of kidnapping. He and his brother were now being held on suspicion of murder and assault.

The son of the former politician, who was also involved in a murder case, was shot dead last week. The last words of 60-year-old Atiq were about his son’s funeral. Journalists asked him if he had attended his funeral. “They didn’t take us there, so we haven’t been there,” he said.
