Pattaya official urges mayor to expand nightlife legal zone

Must read

An official of Pattaya Municipality has proposed to Mayor Poramase Ngampiches to expand the city’s legal entertainment zone. Pattaya city councillor Damrongkiat Pinitkan made the proposal during a meeting on Friday.

Damrongkiat argued that the current zones, which have not changed since 2002, are now quite outdated and out of date.

He also pointed out that the regulations only allow operators to operate entertainment venues on the right side of Pattaya Third Road up to Bali Hai Pier. However, many shops on the left have now opened, as well as in Jomtien and Naklua, he said. Damrongkiat added that these companies would now also like to be licensed.

He said: “If these establishments are located in the legal operating zones, they will also benefit from the extension of legal opening hours.”

On the basis of this proposal, Mayor Poramese has asked the Pattaya Entertainment and Tourism Association to send him an official written petition to be sent to the Ministry of Interior for consideration.

Some Pattaya residents are not the biggest fans of the nightlife because of the noise and crowds they bring. In areas such as Pratumnak Hill and Na Jomtien Beach, disputes have arisen between condominiums and entertainment venues.

Pattaya’s tourist-oriented businesses and vendors have indeed had tensions with local residents. In June, the municipality of Na Jomtien banned all beach vendors who clogged the paths and beach. Neighbours breathed a sigh of relief and said they could now relax in peace and residents would no longer be bothered by the noise.

Time will tell how Damrongkiat’s proposal turns out.
