More details are emerging about the Thai woman who escaped from the Phuket Sandbox on Tuesday. In an update to the story released yesterday, more details have emerged about the (yet) unknown woman who escaped from southern Alcatraz on Tuesday.

The released reports now state that it was an 18-year-old woman who disappeared from the mandatory 14-day stay on arrival in Phuket and was picked up in Chonburi on Tuesday evening after authorities were about to contact her and told her location. had announced.

Initial reports revealed only that a Thai national had fled the Sandbox after just 9 days of the soft quarantine required upon arrival and that the SHA Plus hotel had reported them missing.

Updated information revealed that the Thai woman had flown from the UK to Phuket on July 11 and was staying at a hotel in the Thalang area, where it was discovered that she had left the hotel without checking out.

New information shows she was not using the Mor Chana app with location sharing, which is a mandatory requirement for all Phuket Sandbox arrivals to ensure people stay their 14 days and for contact tracing in case of infection. At first, she did not respond to attempts to contact her and went off the network and escaped from Phuket Island.

Many people had wondered how she fled an island with only one guarded road from it, and the answer now coming out is surprising: she flew. The woman somehow escaped by boarding a flight to Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, without being stopped or checked for her Sandbox status. Upon landing, she made her way to her hometown which was confirmed to be Chonburi but not specifically named.

Authorities in Phuket have already started the process for the appropriate authorities to file legal charges against the escaped woman. She is likely to be charged with multiple offences.

Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew said authorities would investigate how she could leave free and how to prevent it from happening again.
