Thailand has been chosen as the best country in Asia to retire in 2022 by readers of International Living magazine
Thailand was ranked 11th in the global ranking of comfortable countries for people of retirement age, with Panama, Costa Rica and Mexico leading the top three.
The magazine’s annual global retirement index is ranked in several categories, including housing, benefits, visas and residence permits, entertainment and climate.
Thailand was the number one country in Asia for retirees this year because of its beaches, tropical climate, variety of affordable living options, reasonable medical costs and easy visa process for retirees. (Let us know what you think of that last point.)
According to the magazine, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Hua Hin are the best cities to live in. Retirement living costs an average of about $1,000 or 33’500 baht in Thailand, renting a flat can range from $400-500, which ranges from 13’400 baht to 16’750 baht.
International Living magazine gave Thailand a score of 72.9 on its system based on search privileges. Cambodia came second in Asia with 72.3 points, followed by Malaysia with 72 points, Indonesia’s Bali with 69 points and Vietnam with 68.3 points.
Panama enters the magazine’s index as the best place in the world to retire with 86.1 points for its tropical climate, reasonable cost of living and friendly residents.
