To prevent drug abuse among youth, the Royal Thai Police have been ordered to crack down on manufacturers and distributors who illegally manufacture or sell Rohypnol

According to Deputy Government Spokesman Traisuree Taisaranakul, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed his concern about the illegal sale of Rohypnol on online platforms and ordered the authorities to take action against the problem.

He called on the Royal Thai Police to work with the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to trace drug sources and crack down on criminal activities on online platforms.

The Prime Minister was responding to reports that the drug was being used illegally by young people as an alternative to illegal narcotics.

Some users keep the drug in their mouths until they are intoxicated, others mix it with alcohol.

The Princess Mother National Institute on Drug Abuse Treatment ( PMNIDAT ) warned that Rohypnol is a controlled psychotropic substance.

Under the Psychotropic Substances Act 2016, the drug must be taken under the supervision of a doctor, dentist or veterinarian and cannot be purchased from general stores.

The spokesman warned that anyone caught selling the drug without Health Department approval faces up to 5-20  years in prison and/or fines of 100. 000 − 400. 000 baht must calculate.
