Pattaya’s beer bar operators want the government to reopen their open-air facilities as they pose a lower risk of coronavirus than air-conditioned go-go bars and nightclubs.
Prinn Panitchpakdi, vice chairman of the Democratic Party and director of the Confederation of Night Entertainment Operators, has forwarded the petition.
The federal government called for an immediate end to general closure orders and said only places where Covid-19 cases can be traced should be closed and workers should be quarantined for 14 days.
Damrongkiat Pinitkarn, secretary of the Pattaya Entertainment & Tourism Association, said last week that he personally believes bars in provinces with high Covid-19 transmission rates such as Bangkok should not be reopened.
Small bar owners on Pattaya Beach Road want the government to reopen them. However, in areas such as Pattaya and Chonburi with low cases, site closures should only apply to businesses to which cases can be traced.
The administrative center for Covid19 containment, the CCSA on Monday rejected the industry’s petition, saying operators should show the government how to reopen and not become clusters of Covid19 infections.
