Are you a huge fan of The Shining and would you like to own a piece of film history? Then auction site Gotta Have Rock and Roll Auctions has something nice for you to offer. The axe used by actor Jack Nicholson in the film is being auctioned for at least $ 50,000.
The Shining was released in 1980 and is today regarded as one of the best (horror) films ever made. One of the most famous scenes from the horror classic is the one in which the character Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) chases his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall). After locking herself in the bathroom, Jack smashes the door with the axe in an attempt to kill his wife. He also uses the axe to kill the character Dick Hallorann (Scatman Crothers).
According to the auction site, the axe is still in good condition and the buyer will also receive photos of the film with his purchase. The item is expected to sell for between $60,000 and $90,000.
It is not the only example of the well-known axe. Film publisher Warner Bros. had dozens of hard foam copies produced for the shooting of the film, of which only a few are left. Recently another copy was sold for 58,000 dollars.
