Thai Police 2nd Cyber Task Force Department yesterday raided two homes in Pathum Thani believed to be used to operate various online gambling websites, arresting 18 people in the raid.
The suspects became one by one. accused of illegally running an online gambling operation and violating the Emergency Decree, which was put in place to contain the spread of the Covid19 virus. Recently, the Thai government has imposed severe restrictions in Bangkok and surrounding provinces, including Pathum Thani, which limits gatherings to no more than 5 people.
Police investigated several gambling websites and obtained search warrants from the Thanyaburi Court for houses suspected of being linked to the websites.
The task force seized 16 computers, 8 luxury cars and 11 million baht in cash. According to the pl. Police Chief, who also serves as task force director, assets obtained through illegal gambling activities could be seized by authorities under Thailand’s anti-money laundering law.
