19-year-old Thai boy commits suicide in protest against quarantine

Must read

Yesterday a 19-year-old boy jumped into the Nan River and disappeared underwater after his family demanded that he quarantine himself at home after returning from Covid-ravaged Bangkok.

His mother, Udomsri Kachonklin, said in tears that her son Anuchit Imjai had returned from Bangkok last Saturday. The family and volunteers from the local health service asked him to stay in quarantine at home for 14 days.

The house is located on the Nan River near Wat Rat Chang Khwan in Tambon Pak Thang.

After two days in quarantine, Anuchit gave up and went mad and said he wanted to meet his friends, the mother said.

Relatives tried to stop him from leaving, which led to an argument in which he complained that no one loved him. Then he ran to the river and yelled that he was going to kill himself. His mother ran after her son and managed to grab him, but he shook her off, causing her to fall and the son ending up in the river.

Rescue workers searched for him in the river in vain.
