20,000 baht for not wearing facemask
The National Committee on Communicable Diseases published in the Thai Government Gazette that people who do not wear masks in Thailand risk a fine of 20,000 Baht if they are caught violating the Covid19 measure for the third time.
The measure is intended to ensure that all people in public wear face masks to minimize the risk of Covid19 spreading.
The announcement will be shelved once the Covid-19 crisis has been resolved or the state of emergency lifted.
Under the Infectious Diseases Act BE 2558 (2015), people who do not wear face masks in public areas can be punished as follows:
1. No more than a 1,000 Baht fine for the first time.
2. More than 1,000 Baht , but not more than a 10,000 Baht fine for the second time.
3. More than 10,000 Baht, but for the third time no more than a fine of 20,000 Baht.
If the offenders disagree with the sentence or fail to pay the imposed fine within 30 days of being charged, the local health department can refer the matter to the investigating officers for legal action.
If there is repeated misconduct or misconduct by a person that could harm public safety, communicable disease officials may also refer the matter to investigating officers for legal action.
