72-year-old French man in Pattaya commits suicide by hanging himself
A 72-year-old Frenchman was found hanging in his apartment in Pattaya last night (Aug. 13). Pattaya Police were notified of the incident at 9:00 PM, which occurred at an apartment in Moo 9.
The police and rescue workers arrived at the apartment on the sixth floor of a condominium in the centre of the city. The Frenchman was found hanging on a balcony behind the apartment.
Police have withheld his name pending reports from the embassy and family
According to police, the man died at least three days earlier before his body was found. No signs of murder were found, so the police assume that the man took his own life.
The apartment concierge, whose name has not been given to reporters, told Pattaya police that the Frenchman had been living alone in the apartment since September last year.
He was last seen on August 10 after paying his rent. The janitor stated that she hadn’t seen him for several days, which was unusual, and went to see him last night. This was when she discovered a foul smell coming from his room after there was no response to her knocking on his door, she called the police who forced the door and found him dead.
An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death, Pattaya police said.
