Russian billionaire banker Alexander Alexandrovich Svetakov’s superyacht “Cloudbreak” has been spotted in the Pattaya area in recent days and was easily seen from Jomtien Beach in the Sattahip and Bang Saray area as of last night.
The ship made big headlines last week when it docked in Koh Samui and was met with divided opinions from different points of view.
Tourism industry experts and officials from Koh Samui nearly threw themselves into the visit, even going so far as to say it was the return of high-value tourists to Thailand. How your news bear should translate the proverb: “one swallow does not make a summer” into Thai, he does not know and would like to call on your Thai vocabulary!
However, critics, including some prominent social media critics, criticized the visit on the basis of the political situation between Russia and Ukraine and Svetakov’s alleged loyalty to the regime in Russia. This includes US-imposed sanctions against oligarchs and most Russian billionaires. However, Thailand is officially neutral in terms of the conflict, as repeatedly stated by Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha, so Cloudbreak docking and sailing in Thailand would not risk being seized.
For now, those curious can spot Cloudbreak locally for a little longer.
