The Local Administration Department has extended by one month the deadline for the donation of old and unused mobile phones to raise funds for buying books for childcare centres.

Director general Sutthipong Chulcharoen said on Tuesday the deadline was extended to August 31 after Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn agreed to “become a partner” in the campaign.

Suthipong said it was hoped that around three million phones could be collected across the country.

The phones will be sold to recyclers and the proceeds would be used to buy books for 1,000 childcare centres in low-income areas.
