Bangkok named best city in the world for digital nomads
The capital Bangkok took first place as one of the best cities for a “workation” in a survey conducted by the German search engine Holidu.
A “workation” is a journey where one can travel to a new destination and work from there. So you can visit relatives or explore a destination without taking up your leave.
The website analyzed both work and vacation factors in more than 150 countries. Work factors included remote connections, co-working spaces, caffeine, travel and after-work drinks. Vacation factors included accommodation, food, climate, tourist attractions and Instagrammability.
Based on these factors, the website came up with a list of the top five cities, namely:
- Bangkok, Thailand
- New Delhi, India
- Lisbon, Portugal
- Barcelona, Spain
- Buenos Aires, Argentina and Budapest, Hungary (these were at the same level).
According to Holidu, Bangkok took first place for being one of the most affordable cities in the world. For example, accommodation in Bangkok can be expensive, but the food is cheap. Also, the website said, most people in the Thai capital speak English and the city offers first-class facilities.
The website pointed out that while the internet speed in Bangkok may not be the fastest with an average of 28 Mbps, there are over 450,000 free Wi-Fi spots in the city.
Bangkok also won the top spot because it has many places of cultural significance for tourists to visit, such as the Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha Temple, as well as high-street boutiques and floating markets.
