Bangkok police arrest schoolboy who destroyed a traffic booth in the capital as a protester

Police yesterday arrested a 17-year-old protester for vandalizing a traffic booth at a pro-democracy rally held last month by the Thalu Fah group in Bangkok.

Police said a security camera captured the suspect and other protesters at 8pm on Aug. 11 as they smashed the window of the booth at Mahesak Junction in Bang Rak district. The suspect and his motorcycle were clearly visible on the recording, police added.

Police arrested the 17-year-old at his home in Bangkok’s Thung Khru neighborhood, where they also seized a black T-shirt and cream pants as evidence.

The police announced that the suspect had meanwhile confessed that he and a group of friends participated in the protest on August 11. Eight of the friends on four motorcycles passed a police checkpoint before vandalizing public property, including the traffic booth, police claimed.

They said the suspect admitted to joining four protests since August. He is currently in 11th grade at a school in Rat Burana district.
