Bangkok police arrested 17 more protesters, including two minors!
Bangkok police have arrested 17 protesters, including two minors, for protesting at the Victory Monument.
Pro-democracy group Talu Fah had gathered at Victory Monument on Wednesday and prepared to walk to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s home, but now a planned protest march could be foiled by police.
Police officers had been deployed to prevent anti-government groups from entering the prime minister’s house, which resulted in clashes at the Victory Monument, followed later at the Din Daeng intersection.
The protesters reportedly set fire to a police car at the intersection and police responded by firing rubber bullets and tear gas.
The Metropolitan Police Bureau said as protesters dispersed from Victory Monument, they threw rocks and other objects at the windows of 12 traffic control booths in nearby areas, damaging the traffic light system.
The damaged booths are located at Pathum Wan, Sala Daeng, Phya Thai, Samyan, Maha Nakhon, Charoenphol, Chula 12, Mahesak, Ratchathewi, Uruphong, Pratunam and Si Ayutthaya intersections.
So far, 11 police officers have been injured in the collision, although seven have suffered minor injuries and have been released from the hospital. The remaining four are being treated for wounds caused by broken glass and shrapnel from ping-pong bombs thrown at them by protesters.
Eight police cars and three police motorcycles were reportedly damaged by protesters
No information has been released as to whether any protesters were injured.
