Black Panther director Ryan Coogler was wrongfully handcuffed in January after Atlanta police officers mistook him for a bank robber. The arrest can be seen in images released by TMZ earlier this week.

The 35-year-old director wore a mask, sunglasses, and cap when he visited the bank. He gave the bank employee a note in which he wrote that he wanted to withdraw $12,000 from his bank account and wanted to remain “discreet”. Because an amount in excess of $10,000 was withdrawn, a warning signal was triggered within the bank. However, the bank employee went a step further and told her boss that she thought Coogler was planning a robbery. The police then rushed to the bank where the director was arrested.

After Coogler was interrogated in a police car, his arrest turned out to be a big misunderstanding. He only came to take money for a medical assistant who worked for his family. In the end, the director didn’t make a big problem of it and he was released after showing his ID. After the incident, the bank apologized and, according to Coogler, is working with him again “satisfactorily”.
