Five teenage students were injured yesterday after a ping-pong bomb exploded in the classroom of a technical college in central Ayutthaya province.

One of the students was carrying the bomb in a school bag and when he accidentally dropped the bag at about 11 am, it exploded, injuring him and four of his classmates.

Police chief Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya said the five injured male students were between the ages of 15 and 17.

The students suffered minor injuries to their bodies, legs and feet. They were sent to a hospital and everyone was later discharged fit and healthy.

The student carrying the bomb confessed to the police that the bomb was not his and he was forced by an older boy to take the Ping Pong bomb with him. The boy said he didn’t expect the bomb to go off if he dropped his bag.

Another teenage student revealed that there were 30 people in the room and class was about to end when he heard a very loud explosion, which enveloped the classroom in smoke.

He said everyone was scared and ran out of the room in fear for their lives. He added that some of his friends suffered temporary hearing loss from the explosion.

The police commissioner stated the student who took the bomb and the injured students would be questioned. He added that the parents of the children would be invited to the police station to help with the investigation, the source of the bomb and the behavior of their students.
