CCSA outlines an alarming situation in Thailand, 71 provinces must be on alert
The administrative centre for Covid19 containment, the CCSA has urged authorities in 71 provinces outside the greater Bangkok area to prepare home and community isolation facilities. as hospitals will soon be overcrowded.
According to the pl. CCSA spokeswoman Apisamai Srirangson said there were 5,948 new cases of Covid-19 in the greater Bangkok area and 8,373 infections in the 71 provinces within 24 hours.
59 per cent of all infections were found in the provinces, surpassing the number in the greater Bangkok area at 41 per cent for the first time.
Many infected people from the greater Bangkok area were registered in Nan, Phayao, Phrae, Uttaradit, Nakhon Sawan, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Mukdahan, Sisaket, Amnat Char, Yasothon and Ubon Ratchathani.
Resources are now reaching the limits of their capacity in these provinces. In some cases, 70 per cent of hospital beds are already occupied and the number of deaths and new infections is increasing.
“The local hospitals may not be able to treat all cases and home or community isolation centres are needed,” emphasized Dr. Apisamai.
