A Thai lady from Chiang Mai was charged with forgery after she changed the license plate of her car to turn one of the numbers into a “lucky figure”.

The 34-year-old woman’s enforced luck came to an end on August 7 when she passed a checkpoint into the village of Mae Ping and police noticed she had used black paint to change a 3 into an 8 on her license plate. .

She told the police that she took the car to Jomtong Temple to be blessed, A monk told her that 8 would be luckier than 3, and tipped her to change her license plate, and she did. .

The woman claimed she was unaware that altering a government-issued sign would be illegal. After all, she said, the monk made many auspicious markings inside and outside the vehicle and no one cared.

The monk was also accused of participating in this license plate forgery.
