Must read

Chris Hemsworth will soon be seen again in a thrilling Netflix movie. The Australian actor, best known for his role as Thor, stars in Spiderhead, a film about a state-of-the-art, remote prison. He plays a scientist who tests rather creepy drugs on the people trapped there in order to control their emotions.

In the futuristic prison – which has no cells or orange suits – inmates get the chance to participate in medical trials in exchange for a reduced sentence. To do this, they have a device implanted in their bodies, with which ‘mind-altering’ medicines can be administered from a distance. With two prisoners, played by Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett, this gets out of hand with all its consequences.

Spiderhead comes from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the authors who also created 6 Underground and Deadpool. Joseph Kosinski, known for Tron: Legacy and the upcoming title Top Gun: Maverick, will be directed. The film, based on a short story by George Saunders, will be available on Netflix from June 17.

An Original with Chris Hemsworth also appeared on Netflix in 2020, namely the action film Extraction. That title was viewed tens of millions of times within weeks and became the most-watched Netflix movie to date. A sequel was soon announced, which is said to be currently in the works. Whether Spiderhead will be just such a success remains to be seen, but many Netflix viewers are already enthusiastic after seeing the trailer.
