Cody Gakpo leaves PSV for Liverpool in ‘record transfer’

Cody Gakpo says goodbye to PSV. The 23-year-old footballer leaves immediately for England to complete his transfer to Liverpool FC. This can be read in a statement from PSV.

The club from Eindhoven and Liverpool reached an agreement on the transfer of Gakpo on Boxing Day. Although both clubs do not make any announcements about the transfer fee, general manager Marcel Brands does say that it is a ‘record transfer for PSV’. According to the BBC, the amount is around 50 million euros.

The old record was held by Hirving Lozano. He left for SSC Napoli in the summer of 2019 for 45 million euros.

Cody Gakpo was one of the stars of the Dutch national team at the last World Cup. The attacker, who has played a total of fourteen games for the Dutch team so far, scored three goals at the tournament in Qatar. As a result, the attacker became a sought-after player on the transfer market. Although there was talk that he would leave for Manchester United, it has become Liverpool.
