Cyber police raid 14 call centers in Pattaya, have you also been called automatically?

In Thailand’s Daily News, it was written that Thailand’s so-called cyber police or technology police along with the telephone provider “AIS” raided 14 properties in Chonburi province and made necessary arrests and seizures of evidence.

It involved the use of automated IP BPX (Internet Protocol Private Branch Exchange) machines.

The raids were mostly in 16 rooms in the main district of Pattaya, Banglamung.

101 IP BPX machines and Wi-Fi routers were seized and one arrest was made of a manager charged with fraud and computer crime likely to lead to the public being defrauded.

The latest move followed eight previous raids in Bangkok on July 6 in Bang Na, Huay Khwang and Ladprao, which also seized IP-PBX devices used to scam the public.

This prompted further investigation with telephone company AIS about signals and led them to Pattaya.

The 101 seized machines can make automated calls at a cost of nearly 50 million per month.

It is very likely that many ex-pats have received such calls, local media outlets note.

They often start with a Thai massage that reads “You have been named in a criminal case…”

we advise you to end the call immediately.
