Cyclists have complained to the local press about the deplorable condition of a hiking and cycling route in Banglamung, citing concerns about the safety of cycling and sports.
Newspapers in Pattaya had previously received several complaints about the trail in question around the Marp Prachan Reservoir in the Pong sub-district. Some parts on the side of the path are badly damaged, with a possible fall into the steep nearby reservoir should be stopped by barrier tape.
Both Thai and foreign residents regularly use the trail for cycling and sports, every morning and late afternoon. Moreover, according to the residents, there is no lighting at night so it is pitch dark.
A local reporter went to the area, where the trail is on the same side as Soi Siam Country Club, before an intersection to Huayyai. The side of the road appears to have been eroded by water and shows a crater about two meters deep.
The Walking-Running-Cycling trail is a project to support domestic tourism and physical fitness around the Marp Prachan Reservoir. It is about 12 kilometers long in total. The construction of the track was completed in 2019 with a budget of 128 million baht.
The media has reported the problem to the deputy mayor of Pong Municipality, Nithi Intim. He has confirmed working with relevant offices to resolve these issues, although no specific timeline or estimate of a completion date was given.
