Dave Chappelle was attacked onstage by a gunman during his Hollywood Bowl performance yesterday. The incident happened towards the end of his show, which is part of the Netflix Is A Joke series.
TMZ reports that the man ran towards Chappelle with a replica semi-automatic pistol. The gun wasn’t real, but oddly enough, there was also a knife attached to the gun. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the man slipped past the metal detector with the object.
According to an eyewitness, the gunman sat in the audience during the show and got up to take the stage towards the end of the performance. The man ran up to Chappelle and jumped him with the weapon in his hand, after which they both fell.

Chappelle’s security team, meanwhile, stormed onto the stage to grab the man. After a short chase on stage, the security guards caught up with him and beat him up. TMZ reports that Jamie Foxx and Busta Rhymes have also dealt a number of taps.
Despite the man rushing towards Chappelle with a weapon in his hand, the comedian was not injured. The 23-year-old attacker did not recover well and was taken to an ambulance by stretcher. The Los Angeles Police Department reports that the man has been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $30,000 bail.

Chappelle continued with his performance after the incident. The comedian had a host of special guests invited to his show, including Chris Rock, who was also recently attacked on stage at the Oscars. The comedians soon laughed at the incident. Chris Rock walked on stage at the end of the show to hug Chappelle and joked, “Was that Will Smith?”
