The US authorities have discovered a drug tunnel more than six football fields in length on the border between Mexico and the United States. The smuggling tunnel is equipped with an elevator and railway tracks.
Local media report that the tunnel, which is 21 meters deep, was discovered last week. Via the underground route, it is possible to transport drugs between the Mexican Tijuana and the American San Diego. The smuggling tunnel is 630 meters long, 1.20 meters wide and, in addition to railway tracks and an elevator, it also has a complete electricity and ventilation system.
With the help of the fully equipped tunnel, smugglers were able to transport a lot of drugs at a rapid pace. Under the ground, the police found 800 kilograms of cocaine, 75 kilograms of meth, and 1.6 kilograms of heroin. Authorities have arrested six suspects, who are between the ages of 31 and 55.

Police have launched an investigation to determine which drug cartel is responsible for creating the tunnel. The first drug tunnel ever discovered was said to have been built by the cartel of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. El Chapo was looking for an innovative way to transport drugs to America. That went well for a while, but the underground route was discovered in 1990.
The longest drug tunnel ever discovered also lay between Tijuana and San Diego and came to light two years ago. The illegal smuggling route had a length of 1,300 meters.
