A drunk Thai homeless man is said to have beaten a fellow homeless man to death with a broken liquor bottle at the Chonburi Homeless Protection Center yesterday over a personal dispute.

The suspect reportedly acted nonchalantly about the heinous crime, relaxing on his bed after the murder with the corpse still in the dorm, before being arrested by police.

Captain Suriya Klahan of Banglamung Police Station rushed to the Chonburi Homeless Protection Center after being informed that a male drunken bum allegedly murdered a fellow homeless person with a liquor bottle.

At the scene of the incident, other homeless people were evacuated to the first floor of the building, while the suspect remained on the second floor. The officers found the body of the 21-year-old victim, Nattawut Somnuk, with a severe cut on his throat and many bruises. His body was left in front of the dormitory by the suspect, who had gone back to doze after the gruesome murder.

According to reports, the suspect acted as if nothing had happened while napping. Banglamung Police managed to wake up, detain and arrest the suspect without any problems and quickly took him to Banglamung Police Station. The suspect was reportedly relaxed, smiling and seemed unconcerned.

According to eyewitnesses, the name of the 41-year-old suspect would be Suchatanon Wantata. He was a bum and was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The eyewitnesses said the situation unfolded when Nattawut (the victim), who was also homeless along with Suchatanon, allegedly approached him to apologize for allegedly stealing his money earlier.

However, the suspect became frustrated and smashed the victim’s head with a liquor bottle, stamped him and slit his throat with a broken bottle, ending his life.

Finally, the suspect dragged the victim’s body to the front of the room and fell asleep again before being arrested, while the rest of the people in the dorm fled for help.

According to the officers, the victim’s body was taken to Banglamung Hospital to await religious rites, while the suspect was in police custody at the time of writing. It was unclear what legal charges the suspect would face for his terrifying actions.
