Eleven injured, 12 vehicles damaged after a pickup driver crashes into railroad crossing barriers

Last night, 11 people were injured and 12 vehicles were damaged after a motorist drove her pick-up into a guardrail in Chonburi’s main district.

Don Hualor Police were notified of the accident at 10:30 PM. on the Suk Prayoon – Samnak Bok Road in Don Hualor.

The emergency services quickly arrived and found 11 people with mainly minor injuries (6 men, 5 women). They were taken to a local hospital for examination and medical attention.

A total of twelve vehicles waiting in front of the track, a collection of motorcycles, food carts and cars, suffered a lot of damage.

The pickup driver, Dussanee Penkaew, 23, who allegedly caused the accident, was arrested at the scene by police. She was not injured.

Kamthorn Jitsang, 40, a railway worker, told reporters: “The railway barrier had already been lowered with signals to warn that a train was coming.”

“Several vehicles lined up waiting for an approaching train. However, Dussanee entered her pick-up truck from the opposite direction and slammed into the railing fence at high speed, landing in the opposite lane and hitting the line of vehicles and motorcyclists.

Despite multiple flashing lights and warnings, she didn’t seem to see the rail barrier.” said Kamthorn.

Dussanee was taken to Don Hualor Police Station for further legal action. She did not immediately make a statement at the scene of the accident.
