Finnish citizen’s body found in Thailand with cut throat

In Chonburi province, close to Pattaya, the body of a Finnish citizen was found with a cut throat and a kitchen knife lying on his chest

The body of a 58-year-old Finnish national has been found with his throat slit in Chonburi province, the Bangkok Post reported. The body of the murdered man was found in his home in Sattahip district. The murder weapon, believed to be a kitchen knife, was found lying on the Finn’s chest.

Police are questioning the Finnish man’s unofficial spouse, a Thai national, who discovered the man’s body after taking her younger relative to school. The couple lived in a one-story detached house in the tambon village of Bang Sarai.

The woman reported the man’s death to local police at 8:30 a.m. Police arrived on the scene and found the dead man lying on a bed with only his underwear on. The man’s neck had been slit and a kitchen knife was lying on his chest. The man’s 49-year-old Thai wife was sitting in the room crying.

The couple had lived together for about five years but never registered a formal marriage, the woman said. The man went to Finland, where he lived for about two years. Nine months ago, however, the man came back to Thailand and bought a house.

On the day of his death, the man woke up at 6 a.m. His wife had prepared food and coffee for him and left to take the younger relative to school. When the woman returned home, she saw blood in the room and found her husband’s corpse with his throat cut and a kitchen knife lying on the man’s chest.

According to the wife, the man had considered suicide several times because of domestic problems in Finland. The man’s body was taken to the Police General Hospital in Bangkok for an autopsy and forensic examination.

Police are still questioning the woman about the man’s death, as neighbors told investigators that the couple often quarreled and had noisy arguments.
