A man in Florida has caused tragedy after he shot and killed three black people in Jacksonville. According to US authorities, the motives were clearly racist. The gunman shot himself after the attack.
On Saturday afternoon, the man, whose identity has not yet been released, walked into a supermarket in Jacksonville. “He started shooting at customers with a rifle with a swastika on it,” Jacksonville police said at a news conference. “He was targeting black people.” The victims are two black men and a black woman, and no one else was injured.
Shortly before the shooting, the gunman’s family discovered a written manifesto outlining his deep-rooted hate ideology. The man, who was around 20 years old, still lived with his parents in Clay County. It is not yet known if he was with an organization, but the FBI is going to treat it as a hate crime.

According to the most recent data from the nonprofit organization Gun Violence Archive, there have been 471 reported shooting incidents in the United States so far this year, resulting in at least four casualties, either killed or injured. These figures do not include shooters who were themselves killed or injured. Our thoughts go out to the black community and the victims’ families.
