Last Saturday, a Frenchman was arrested in Pattaya for cheating a number of foreigners in Pattaya for a total amount of 6.3 million baht.
Major General Atthasit Kijjaharn, the provincial chief commander of Chonburi, announced that the arrest of 59-year-old Herve Christian Robert Leonard was made on the basis of seven arrest warrants issued by the Pattaya Court in seven separate fraud cases – six in Pattaya. and one in the Nongprue area had been issued.
A number of foreigners in Pattaya filed complaints with the police, accusing the Frenchman of cheating for a total of 6.3 million baht. The complainants said the man had defrauded them by selling large motorcycles, claiming that he could help them settle their lawsuits because he had built a close relationship with some police officers.
The French embassy also received the same complaints and contracted the provincial police to take action.
A police investigation led to the Frenchman’s arrest on Saturday from a residential area in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. He denied the allegations.
Police also casually noted that the Frenchman had exceeded his visa by a year, four months and 27 days. He has been handed over to Pattaya Police for further legal proceedings.
