Growing Marijuana at home is legal in Thailand after 120 days

Yesterday, the long-awaited decision was officially made to allow Thai households to grow cannabis (marijuana) without restrictions, much to the delight of those seeking to take advantage of the once illegal plant.

Household planting could begin in the next 120 days, once the removal of marijuana from the blacklist is published in the Royal Gazette, health minister Khu said. Anutin Charnvirakul, after signing a ministerial announcement to know.

Family marijuana cultivation by small businesses (7 people) can begin immediately, but single-person households will have to wait until the end of the 120-day period. They will then be allowed to grow up to six marijuana plants, or an unlimited number if they register with the government.

Several new laws will be passed to legalize the modification of marijuana for medicinal and other uses, Anutin said. However, he reiterated that the concentration of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in marijuana products should remain below 0.2 per cent. THC is the psychoactive chemical that elevates humans to the higher realms that marijuana is known for.

A law to prevent widespread abuse of marijuana products has been passed by the House of Representatives and awaits Prime Minister approval.

Anutin said several government agencies need to work closely together to enforce the upcoming laws. His move leaves only magic mushrooms (psilocybin) and opium strains on the Thai list of banned addictive and illegal plants.
