Guests of restaurant in Isaan risk 2 months in prison for drinking alcohol

The Bangkok Post reported that Thai police raided a restaurant this week and arrested 39 people, including customers and staff. Police say the bar was open outside the hours set by emergency orders and was serving alcohol.

According to the article in the Bangkok Post, the arrested guests reportedly face two months in prison and a 12,500 baht fine.

Nakhon Ratchasima province has been classified as a “dark red” zone for a high Covid-19 infection rate. This means that the sale and consumption of alcohol in restaurants is prohibited, in addition, according to the emergency regulations, the restaurants in the “dark red” zones must close at 9 p.m.

Police raided the Lamer Restaurant and Karaoke around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday. According to the police, alcohol was served and live music was played, which is also in violation of both the provincial ordinance and the Emergency Decree.

The district chief says the 39 people arrested all plead guilty and would have been convicted by the Nakhon Ratchasima court, according to the above sanctions. He also said authorities planned to take further action against the owner of the establishment.

Local authorities have informed the public that they have no choice but to enforce the current Covid19 rules and are obliged to prosecute any violators. They said they expect the situation to improve soon and advise the public to respect any restrictions in the meantime.
