Hua Hin Police Warns Against Counterfeit Money – How To Spot Counterfeit Money?

Must read

Hua Hin police have warned people in Hua Hin, both Thai and foreign, to watch out for counterfeit money.

The warning comes after police investigated reports of counterfeit 1,000 baht bills circulating in the area.

Police have compared a legitimate bill with counterfeits to help people spot the counterfeit money more easily.

These are a list of comparison for you one by one:

Note 1: On a legitimate 1000 baht banknote, the metal strip has a rich golden yellow color, compared to the fake one where the metal strip has a greenish tint. Also, the metal strip is much closer to the edge of the bill on the counterfeit bill.

Point of Interest 2: On a legit note, the image of the flowers circling the number ‘1000’ will glisten in the light and will consist of a crisp, sharp line. However, on the false tones, the image of the flower does not shimmer and the lines are not as sharp or clear.

Note 3: On a legit note, the number 0 out of 1000 on the left is next to the metal strip. On the counterfeit note, however, the zero is much further away.

With Hua Hin expected to see an uptick in business due to the arrival of both domestic and international tourists visiting the resort from Oct. 1, business owners are also being urged to train their staff to examine notes they receive.

If they think they have received counterfeit money, they should call the police immediately.
