Indians and other foreign nationals are not allowed to enter the country from India
Thailand bans all Indians and other foreigners coming from India into the country due to the severe coronavirus crisis there.
Taweesilp Visanuyothin, the spokesperson for the Covid19 Virus Control Administrative Center, said yesterday that Thailand has delayed the process of issuing certificates of access for Indian citizens and foreigners coming from India. The document is mandatory for all people planning to come to Thailand.
Dr Visanuyothin said that only Thai returnees from India are still allowed, and at least 130 vah intend to return next month.
This decision came amid a worsening coronavirus situation in India, with more than 300,000 new cases and thousands of deaths every day. The country has now surpassed Brazil as the second most affected country after the United States in terms of new confirmed cases.
The spokesman denied reports of wealthy Indians fleeing COVID-19 on charter flights to Thailand. “There were no charter flights from India to Thailand,” he said. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) announced yesterday that there is only one commercial flight a week from India to Thailand and that passengers on board are only entitled to travel to Thailand. Upon arrival in the country, they are immediately quarantined.
Next month, four repatriation flights will fly from India to Thailand on May 1, 8, 15 and 22.
