It’s been more than a week since Will Smith punched Chris Rock during the Oscar ceremony, but the last thing doesn’t seem to have been saying about it yet. Jada Pinkett-Smith has also reportedly commented on the high-profile incident. An insider reports to US Weekly that the actress would have liked her husband to react differently to Chris Rock’s joke.
“It happened on a whim and he overreacted. They both know that. They agree he overreacted,” an anonymous source close to the couple told the entertainment website. Also, Jada would not want people to get the impression that she is “weak” and that Will Smith has to stand up for her for that reason. “She’s not a woman who needs protection. He didn’t have to do what he did. She’s a strong and stubborn woman and she can fight her own battles, but she will always stand by him.”

At the 94th Academy Awards, Chris joked that Will Smith’s hairdo’s wife is the perfect lead actress for a sequel to GI Jane. In the 1997 film, actress Demi Moore shaved her head to portray the role of GI Jane. The joke went wrong with Will, as his wife suffers from the condition alopecia and therefore struggles with hair loss. After the joke, he walked on stage and punched the Oscar host in the face.
A few days after the Oscar incident, Will Smith apologized to Chris Rock. “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I went too far and I was wrong. I am ashamed of my actions, they give no indication of the man I want to be. There is no room for violence in a world full of love and kindness,” said Will. Last week, the 53-year-old actor also canceled his membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences or the organization behind the Oscars.
