The Daily News reported that despite the slump in the resort caused by the Covid19 pandemic, improvements to replace sand at Jomtien Beach in Pattaya are continuing.
Rising storm clouds prompted the stings that flooding could well wash away the sand, just like after similar improvements on Pattaya’s main beach.
The first phase of the Jomtien improvements to restore erosion is now 4.39% complete. The Port Department is spending 586 million baht on this stretch, which stretches from two Jomtien Chalet Hotels to U Jomtien Pattaya – a distance of 3,575 meters.
The 900-day contract was signed by Italian Thai Development and ran from May last year to November 2022. Ultimately, 6.2 kilometres of the beach area to be restored.
The nourishment sand is extracted from the island of Koh Rang Kwian, 15 kilometres from Jomtien.
