It is Songkran week in Pattaya, but due to the current Covid19 pandemic this year is causing dark clouds and the Thai New Year celebration this year looks different from previous years.

The Thai government has ordered the closure of all entertainment venues in 41 provinces, including Chonburi, for at least two weeks due to an increasing number of cases in the province and the country. These originally came from an entertainment area in the Bangkok area.

In addition, weeks ago, the government banned “fun” Songkran activities such as water fights, concerts, and parties.

However, Chonburi province makes the most of a difficult situation and hosts a socially aloof kite festival on Pattaya Beach in Songkran. With a variety of kites and the ability to find your own kites, the event is held right on the beach and it’s easy to keep your distance and stay safe from Covid-19.
