A 41-year-old Florida mother is charged with child neglect after leaving her 2-year-old son alone in the car for nearly 45 minutes to go swimming. According to the witness, she wanted to meet sharks.

ARREST

The mother, Allison Sarah Daughtery, was arrested after a witness informed police about the incident. The witness had seen how the mother left the child unattended on Monday morning around 10:30. The woman had left the engine running. She turned up the radio before leaving for the Bokeelia Fishing Pier. About twenty minutes after the mother left, the witness saw the boy crawling through the car.

The woman was also warned about sharks by a group of fishermen. However, she did not respond and continued to swim in the unsafe water. Allison allegedly told the fishermen that she wanted to “meet sharks.” Even after emergency services arrived, the woman continued swimming. The woman was eventually taken out of the water by a rescue boat.

ODD BEHAVIOR

According to the New York Post, the child was then picked up by a family member. After the incident, the child was first fed in a restaurant. Jenny Wray, a restaurant worker, described him as “a very sweet little boy who was very polite.” He seemed oblivious to what had happened recently. “Fortunately,” said Jenny. In the week before this incident occurred, Allison and her son had already been to the same restaurant three times, Wray said. Each time, the mother seemed to behave in a “strange” manner, according to the employee.

The mother, who has been taken into custody, is expected to appear in court on October 2.
