Monk in Northern Thailand kicks the 16-year-old boy in the face for not buying food

A 16-year-old boy was kicked in the face after refusing to buy food for a monk. The indignant but above all furious mother went to report to Major Kanok Wangjaifoo at Ko Kha Police Station in Lampang Province.

She said that son got kicked in the face of a monk from the local temple in her village after her son did not want to play the slave of the monk and thus did not buy food for the man.

The mother reported that her son was going to visit a young novice at the temple. While they were playing games, a monk approached him and told the boy to buy him food at a restaurant 3 miles from the temple. It was a hot day and his gas tank was almost empty, so the son told the monk he didn’t.

The monk asked him why he did not do as he was asked. The son informed the monk several times that he did not have enough gasoline in the tank, whereupon the monk became enraged and kicked the boy in the face. The boy jumped up and started to fight back. There were young monks in the area who stopped the fight to continue. The boy was injured in the eyes, neck and both arms.

The monk has not apologized to date, but has sent family members to come and negotiate. The mother says she doesn’t want money, but wants justice. The boy’s grandmother said she was disappointed with the monk.

This is the first time this monk has done such a thing, but as a monk she expects better of him as a representative of Buddhism.
