Bangkok police seized 78 pistols and associated ammunition from a gold shop owner accused of selling firearms online during a raid on a block of flats in Phutthamonthon last night.

Crime Suppression Division (CSD) officials found the loot in an apartment on the 19th floor of a building on Phutthamonthon Soi 2. The apartment belongs to the 43-year-old owner of a gold shop in Bangkok’s Nong Khaem District.

The shop owner, Anapat, was arrested last Wednesday during a CSD raid on his shop in Nong Khaem, where a large stock of weapons was found.

He was one of three suspects caught separately on the same day during police raids on eight spots in Bangkok and other provinces. 41 pistols, 15 rifles, 14 grenades and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition were seized. His colleagues in crime, 39-year-old Naruephol Chan-nuan, 39, and 27-year-old Saharat Lopthongkham were also arrested.

Police Colonel Pornsak Laorujiralai, the deputy. CSD chief who led the operation said the investigation will be expanded to find other members of this illegal firearms network.
